  • Coil housing question

    Hi,
I would like to get a coil shell and put a black colored epoxy type material in the shell to completely encase the coil. This would have to be waterproof. Specifically, take a Hayes coil shell, place the coil in the top half, pour the material in and let it harden, and not use the bottom half of the shell. I've seen some coils made this way but I don't know of a suitable, waterproof material to use. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

An idea to make the coil lighter would be to pack out as much as possible with Styrofoam, then use a low molecular weight resin. Find the posts by Carl NY on making coils, this guy knows more than the big detector manufacturers, and turns out first class quality kit too, I think he geves the type of resin AND where to get it from in one of his posts.

Are you in US or UK as I have a source on this resin in the UK.

      in the US

Thanks for the reply Sean. I am in the US. I have a deepstar by Eric Foster and I noticed that his coils, as well as others, seem to be made this way. I was wanting to make some coils like this if possible.
      Thanks

I will try to send you a copy of the phone number Eric Foster gave me of a supplier of this thin resin in the UK, but you may have ot hunt around to find it in the US if Carl can't tell you where to get it.
