  • Is good 9 x 8 '' coil for uMax in disc ???

    Hi all,
I have a friend that can sell to me one tesoro 9x8'' coil oval concentric for uMax series.

    Question is:
is good/better than round 8'' concentric in disc operations or one just gain depth but lose some disc ability ???

I never used original tesoro coils...so I'm a bit confused on that point.
I can't try directly cause he lives in another town distant from me and I only can/cannot trust what he said...but he isn't an expert and I'm not sure he is right on his toughts.

Does anyone maked a comparision between rounds 8'' and ovals 9x8'' ???
Cause I've made some at home (22DD and 8''round) but don't know about originals concentrics performances.

Any idea ??? Any suggestion welcome.

    Best regards,
    Max

I have both coils, but have never made a direct comparison between them. However, I've never noticed a significant difference, either.

      Hi Carl,
      thanks for the info.

I think they are similar in depth cause dimensions are similar. Just had a dubt on possible strange disc interactions and eventually loss of disc.
But if they never showed significative differences I think 9x8 could be good for me.

I know that 9x8 costs also more than round-8'', but really don't know why.

      Best regards,
      Max

Hi max. The coils are about the same.Oval coil must be a bit more sensitive (1...2 cm for coin). But it is original, no home made.
        Regards

          Hi Geo,
I've decided to buy it cause I want to experiment with other tesoro uMax design (in some spare time...in future) and at now have only my homemade coils...so I need a term of comparision, like an original concentric coplanar for them to test.
In particular, I'm interested in disc operations with original coils but depth has it's importance too.
I found that little variations in homemade coils gives sometimes big differences in disc working. So I'm curious about originals working.

          Best regards,
          Max

            Hi Max .
Buy it, it is original Tessoro. When you will try it tell us about the differences with your homemade coil.
            Regards

Can you please post your schematic for your homemade bandido2 coils (Standart, 22DD and 8''round) and Picture ?
              Thanks

                Hi,
I can post only 8'' round...cause I've already potted with epoxy the DD 22cm...and coils are not visible now (clear but not transparent epoxy) but belive me they are easy, DD much more than 8'', to do.
                Schematic ?
Just I've a lead of tx and a lead of rx connected together for gnd, then two other leads for tx and rx cables. Totally 3 conductors. I haven't any tuned capacitor inside coils but only at PCB (33nF). You can do easy DD where 8'' round requires much care to work properly (RX1 need to be tailored to null properly) and to match expected frequencies like in Mike's instructions.
I'll post some 8'' round pictures ASAP (few days) cause I'm not at home now.
Anyway, there are nothing special I think...but the 8'' former I've made is precise and costs me much hard work (3days)...but I made DD coil in about 2hours and works very well.

                Best regards,
                Max

                  Hi,
                  here is my 8''-round-concentric-coplanar coil.
I've used plastic for everything but the RX former top that is rigid cardboard.
I've glued everything with cyano-glue and hot-melt glue. Bottom side is made of melamine
plastic, very rigid and hard to cut and put in shape. The green "border" for TX is made of
PVC plastic and allow me to wound directly tx in the space obtained from it to the bottom
plate - inner diameter is exactly 200mm.
The rx former is made of abs plastic - from a paint can and rigid cardboard (on top) - inner
                  diameter is exactly 120mm.
Both formers are centered vey well one to the other.
On middle here you can see one rx1 wire tightned in place by insulating tape to form the
25 3/4 turns (actually the "3/4" is the wire you can see there).
There is a small rectangular pcb to hold connections to a fixed place and where to connect the
                  cable.
There are just 3 pads - gnd in the middle , then TX and RX - and that's all.
The coil has an extremely good pinpointing but isn't not as sensitive as the DD22cm I have wound
                  later.

As I said...it's nothing special but a good coil for experimenting with bandido. I suggest make DD coil for it first cause it's simple and you don't need to make the former...

                  Best regards,
                  Max
