  • Goldscan coil !

Hi all, could someone please give me a little help,
Ive just bought a 1992 goldscan 2 with 8in coil, and i'd like to make my own 11in coil, from what i've read on the net PI coils are not to difficult to make, but where do i start, how many turns?, what type of wire?, i need as much info as possible, can someone help please.

Click here and go to the last link at the bottom, how to make fast mono coils. You can, for a first stab, take some severe short-cuts. Use ordinary magnet wire, available in a 3-pack from Radio Shack. The 26-awg is about right. Use a plywood form. Number of windings depends on what inductance you need, but for 11" I would guess 22 turns is pretty close. Tack on some twisted-pair wire and kludge it on to the GS2.

If this works then buy a coil shell, shield the coil, pot it up, add coax, and a connector (Bulgin? I think).

      Hi,
I suggest reading the bbsailor article on fast PI monocoils...to have more data on their construction...that's easy for many aspects respect to e.g. ib coils but require care ...expecially in shielding materials to be used and also the kind of wire...if maximum detection on smaller items is required.

      Best regards,
