yes someone (me) have done ...recovering some wire... if gauge is not too big you could use in VLF... for sure it would be good for some PI coils.
I've recovered much 0.37mm wire from one of these... but problem is that sometimes the heat of tube "melt" or "fire" somehow the varnish, so getting you into trouble when try to recover wire (varnish breaks...). I was lucky with one but tryed again second time I got stuck cause all insulant was broken.
Anyway there are also other emergency "sources"..."dismantler" is my second name! I've built bandidoII using an Apple computer man!
Best regards,
Max
PS: very good alternative sources are old pinball games... but you have to know someone in the business. Actually some of my coils are ehm...
from a dead "letal weapon III" pinball, many thanks to DATA EAST!

When I saw the subject of this thread, for some reason, I thought that it referred to the kind of degaussing coil which a TV repairman uses, as opposed to the kind of degaussing coil which is built into a TV or monitor. The kind of coil used by a repair man is encased in an open loop (made of plastic or something similar), and would make a good metal detector coil, if the metal detector were optimized for a specific degaussing coil.
