  • Ferrite Rod

Does anone have a source for MnZn Ferrite Rod? Looking for 8-12mm diameter. I can find tons of NiZn, but bbsailor indicates that this would not be good for a PI MD.

Try this source, courtesy of Gary's web site.

    The Fair-Rite Rod is Part Number "4077375211" (3/8" Diameter X 1 15/16" Long)

You want a "soft ferrite" that releases it's core magnetization quickly so target responses can be detected as soon as the pulse turns off. Hard ferrites don't relase their magnetization very quickly and look like targets themselves and will not work in a PI probe.

Do a web search on the words "soft ferrite" to learn more about this.

Consider also that MnZn has a very low saturation point.
