Here is a picture of the inside of a 15" whites coil made by Applied Creativity. What I'm wondering is what is the loop of wire that is taped to the bottom of the RX coil with no elecrical connection? Is it some type of faraday shield of some sort?
Does it form a closed (shorted) loop? It looks like it's insulated. My guess is it's part of the balancing, a way of final tweaking, although this is usually done by pulling a single loop (or part of a loop) of wire off one of the coils and moving it around, then glueing in place. Looks like the picture shows this as well.
My question is: Is the middle coil the bucking coil? Why is it so far away from the RX coil?
It appears to be a loop, but not an electrically closed loop, i.e. it appears to be an insulated wire that is twist-tied and laid across the bottom of the RX coil.
Carl, I'm not sure what a "bucking" coil is, but this week I'll be disecting the coils further and if anyone's interested I'll post the results...
