  • DD Shielding Questions

Why does the TX coil need sheilding in a DD configuration?

Also when using aluminum tape as a shield does it need to be one continuos piece or can it be more than one piece overlapped?

    Thanks!

GOOD QUESTION. It should not really need it i think, only the RX coil.
Yes can use individual wrap of RX coil or one big overlapping piece.

      Hi,

I have built many coils for my sovereign and I do definitely need shielding on both the TX and RX. Coil is just much quietier when totally shielded, especially when at my favorite hunting area which is a salt water beach. Possibly on PI's or other types of machines it is not needed but this is what I found.

        Hello PLUMABOB
I'm trying to build my own coils.
        I have a Musketeer.
Do you know the characteristics of a TS1000 minelab.
Can you explain how do you have made your coils ?
I try to make a DD coil like TS1000 but for White's Classic.

        Thank you

Sorry I am not familiar with the Musky or the Whites classic. As far as building coils you could write a book on the subject. I simply turn 2 sets of windings, one TX and one RX. Individually shield each of them. Balance them up and pot them. If you are looking for more details do a search there is lots on info on this site!

          Regards,

          Bob
