  • Whites XLT/Classic/Etc 9.5" Coil Internals (& Building A 12")?

Far as I know there are currently know 12" coils being made for the XLT, QXT, Classics, and other units using the same frequency. Well, there was the Hot Heads but they were junk from what I hear. The 12" Hot Shot by Jimmy Siera is a good coil but I was unable to get the one I had to work with the QXT Pro I had at the time. It would get unstable after about five minutes of use regardless of location. I've heard nothing but positive things about these coils on the XLT and suspect there was something about the particular QXT I had at the time that it didn't like.

Anyway, I'm looking to build a few coils for the QXT Pro I currently have. I'm thinking a 12 to 13" concentric and perhaps a double D in that size to for some deeper coin hunting, and then a 4" or so concentric for shallow trash shooting. I've got a basic background in electronics and a friend who is an electrical engineer to help me fill in the blank spots if I need some help.

It would be useful to know what the 9.5" Whites coil consists of in both gauge of wire, turns, configuration, readings, and what else it consists of to act as a starting point to scale up/down from. If anybody has any information they can provide it would be of great help.

I'd also be interested in hearing suggested material(s) to shield the coil, methods to inclose it, etc. I've got some hot wire cutting tools that I use in another hobby and am thinking about cutting the coil's inner foundation out of some dense EPS foam. Light but very strong. Once the coil is incased in the foam I could fiberglass it for further strength and to waterproof the unit. Ideas and input welcome.

    Hello,
I have the same problem like you.
I want to make coil for my Classic or 6000DI and i don't have carasteristics of deepscan 950 coil (number of turns for TX , RX and diameter of wire.

I have just this : TX inductance: 540 microH
    RX inductance: 36 milliH
    TX resistance: 1,2 ohms
    RX resistance: 128 ohms

    PLEASE HELP US ....
