  • Whites Surfmaster pi pro coils Q

I have a chance to get a White's surf pi pro at a reasonable price but I have been told this has a weighted coil. Since I want to use at beach and shallow water, is there any info on making a lightweight PI coil for this machine?
Would there be a be problem making a connector several inches below the box? Thanks for any leads in this direction. This might be an inexpensive way to learn some hands on mods. Thanks Wyndham

The weighted coil is to allow for neutral buoyancy in the salt water. If you are going to be water hunting, which is where the better jewelry is usually found, this may be your best option.

I have the Surf PI Pro with the standard coil. I mostly hunt in the water and sometimes think the weighted coil would be better. The standard coil tends to try and float up, so you have to put forth a little more effort to keep it on the bottom. I haven't tried a weighted coil myself, but I'd assume it would be better in the water.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see what others recommend about waterproof connectors...

Thanks, one of my thoughts is about nuggets in shallow rivers or where one might slip and fall with a dryland detector and fry it so in that case I'd keep it as is, but since I'm near the Carolina coast that might be the realistic to keep it as is I was just thinking about my back for the shallow water and beach use and the weight of the coil. Thanks Wyndham
