  • Can Gold Bug coils work on Shadow X5?

    Hi,

I'm hoping Dave Johnson can answer this one. The original Fisher Gold Bug and Troy Shadow X5 both run at 19 kHz. Both have coils that use the same five pin connector. Any chance at all they are compatible? If not directly, then by switching wires?

And related to this, is there any thing to fear from just plugging one in and trying it? Seems like the power levels we are talking about here would cause no damage... but heck if I know!

I would like to try the X5 with the Fisher 6" elliptical coil. The X5 reminds me of the Gold Bug (gee, no wonder) when it is in the all-metal mode, but it is far more sensitive to small gold.

I really like the Gold Bug (still own one) but it always seemed like the sensitivity (gain) just ran out before it should. The X5 appears to let you crank it up higher.

Thanks in advance for any comments,

    Steve Herschbach
