  • Need source for 2 cond ind shielded coil cable

Does anyone have a source for the 2 conductor individually shielded coil cable like I see on the commercial coils you buy from dealers? Thanks.

Wish I could tell you what you want to hear...

If you look at the dual coax cables that show up on the various mfr's searchcoils, something funny becomes evident:

they're all different, and they're custom cables.

As an experimenter, here are some options I'm aware of:

    1. Get two coaxes and wrap 'em together. Ugly, but in matters not involving love or money, there's usually no ugly penalty.

    2. Get multiple shielded twisted pair and say the heck with the spare conductor; or, find a way to use it. Radio Shack has served shield twisted pair mike cable that's excellent for beeper use if you consider only the electricicals and not the mechanicals.

    3. If you'll settle for braided shield, there are some pairs available from Allied and (as I recall) Mouser. There's also dual twisted pair shielded stuff by Belden and Alpha that used to be standard beeper stuff 20 years ago, but long since outran its limitations for commercial products. .......I presently work for Bounty Hunter, where cutting costs is of utmost importance, and even there we don't use the off-the-shelf standard Belden-Alpha stuff.

      Try

      BELDEN 9729

BELDEN 8723 (probably best due to low Z)

If you're building a PI, then this cable positively ROCKS!!

      BELDEN 9272

OH one more point ot note.

Talk to BELDEN, they do a SILVER cable (used by hi fi nuts), it ain scheap, but it has characterisics to drool over.

Slightly cheaper is the OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) that they do. Most of this is sold to beeper mfg's (so Belden tell me) and they will sell it to the public. Only problem is, in 50M lengths, and that's gonna cost you at least $200!
