  • Encapsulating coils and PI mechanical parts...

    Hi,

Is there anyone who sells coil "templates"?

I shoudl explain - I have designed and built my first PI detector, but I want to encapsulate the coil and get it off the workbench into the field... Its a fairly standard 11" mono...

Now, I could make a template out of wood, with a router, then create a plaster negative, then line that with GRP, lay the coil in, and finally pot it with two-pot epoxy...

However, it occurred to me that there may be folks out there already selling the GRP shells etc.

I also am after the arm holders with the "anti-rollover" fins on the back, and suitable pistol grips...

    Any ideas welcome...

    Thanks

There are now two sources for coil shells. One is Bill Hays, at Hays Electronics. He has 5-1/4" up to 10x14", including an 11". See http://www.hayselectronics.com/parts.htm.

The other is an individual that Reg Sniff got me in contact with. Unfortunately, those emails are on my machine at home. He also has several sizes, I'll upload pics & contact info tonight unless Reg is reading, and beats me to it.

For rods, I like Tesoro (needs a velcro strap) and, especially, the new Shadow X5. Don't know if either would sell just the upper rod. I do know that White's sells a complete s-rod with arm cup, but no rollover fins -- called the "Space Saver" kit, costs $40.

        Hi Carl and Nicko,

I have emailed Rick S. and asked him about posting his latest prices. Rick has been having computer problems so I am not sure he got the note. I will email him again.

Bill Hays of Hays Electronics has pictures of some of his housings on his website but not the latest ones he has available. He is also building a new 11" housing that will work better for DD coils. The new housing will allow for a little more overlap width.

I had emailed Rick a few days ago to get permission to post his email address & picks, no reply yet. Reg mentioned he might be having computer problems. I will go ahead and post the pics of the coils, then let Rick jump in with more info.
