    Hi,
??? cyanoglue ? this is good just for temp fixing.

Use epoxy, it's very hard stuff.

    Gloves ???

Other fixing stuff could be e.g. araldite, if you find it, it's really strong (always epoxy kind) but not cheap.

    Kind regards,
    Max

        Hi,
Did you try not to put epoxi on your hands?
Epoxi normally is fairly neutral, and can be cleaned (before hardening) with soap and water.

          Hi Vladi,
what ?????? You didn't use gloves with that stuff ???

No good. It's really reactive stuff... and your reaction on hands is plain normal and serious indication you're already allergic to that compounds.

USE GLOVES: they save your hands and save you (at least that's the hope) from sensitising more on that stuff... that could be very dangerous process.

I'm not joking now: use the gloves, glasses and wear mask breather, adequate clotes too.

I'm aware of it... it's evil thing... both hardner and resin... same story... hardner gives much trouble with vapours too... dangerous stuff.

Which are the best ? I really don't know.

I read somewhere that latex gloves must be avoided in handling epoxy stuff... but really can't tell you... cause I saw a number of people using latex gloves at boatbuilding/surfbuilding process/factories many times.

I know many use vinil instead of latex... but, as I said, just few people that I know... other just use latex gloves.

Maybe best stuff is neoprene or nitrile but I don't know where you can find that gloves or which is cost for a pair and the like.

I use thick chemical kind for such work...and just for this stuff.

But maybe someone else here could tell you better than me...

          I only repeat: be careful.

          Kind regards,
          Max

            Hi Fred,
            neutral ?

Not really... soap and water are extreme measures... better he wear gloves.

I've never touched with bare hands the components before 7-8 days hardening cause just wanna avoid touching some uncured epoxy.

Are reactive chemicals. If you touched them I suggest you'll take care next time, using gloves and everything: it's subtle thing... you can belive you are immune from reactions... till they develop and you simply cannot stay near that stuff... even at 20meters.

I saw, one time, a person faint after opening a large hardner can. Big allergic reaction... with breath simptoms... no good. From what I know he don't work anymore at same place... just to stay far from epoxy!

            Kind regards,
            Max

                Hi Vladi,
well done, safety is first concern.

My epoxy ? I use different kinds for different tasks.

But I talk you about the one I use for VLF coils expecially... that's very cool.

It's something I bought at 9eur/Kg (now it's 12eur/Kg! Dang!) from a local dealer... of paints and marine products.

Mostly employed in surfboards making and repairs... the first who told me about it was actually my friend that's involved in surfbuilding stuff.

And it's really nice stuff, if don't consider the usual mess about vapours etc.

It's really low viscosity... not like water.... but similar when you drop it into the mould/container, also transparent (look at TGS thread and you'll see in last pages one of these coils I made).

It's usual 2 components, one is (resin) bisphenol-A based and hardner is polyammine and other stuff. 2 parts of resin and 1 part of hardner.

Easy, simply I mix very well and then drop into the mould a few at a time...

That's it. In surfboard making and repair it's widely employed cause of very hi resistance to stress... wow... when hard it's like a rock!

Usually it dry VERY slow... unless you use a fast hardner (sold apart) but I DO NOT SUGGEST ANY FAST HARDNER: too hot stuff... I tested and gave me enormous temperature peak... so temporary fixing melt... PLASTIC melt etc etc... NO GOOD. Usually I wait 7 days for very good coils... also to avoid dealing with uncured epoxy around. Other I make in 2-3days hardening... but just for testing.

I suggest , if you haven't already, buy some similar stuff. The same formulation is often found in electronics shops and hardware stores too... but , though exactly the same stuff, you'll pay it much more... and buy in small cans.

I suggest you look for marine products... cause not only surfboards but also boat repairers use it... when need something REALLY good for the purpose.

Another source could be at industrial chemical products... like sealants etc stores/dealers. They have too.

Last, but not least look for clear floor covering epoxy... you could find too...and for cheap on good quantity.

                Kind regards,
                Max
