Coil Dynamics - Question

Hi All - Finished my PI-1 works a treat !!!
Can anybody tell me some of the dynamics of a coil ie.. Is the field cone shaped going into the ground ? What is the area covered by a coil ? I am looking for general type info not specific, so I can understand what is going on

hi Gavin, I have offered to use a coil (a standart, I mean of) in 'pinpoint mode'. simply turn a coil on a ridge and you can use it.
that is maybe very extraordinary way, but you can speedy find off very small targets at ground surface, as the search area would be more small.
with 19 cm (7,5") of diameter coil I get only about 1" on 2" of the area.
