  • Formula for Square coil?

I have a formula to calculate coils (i posted it not long ago.) The problem is that I want to make a big square coil and would like to know how to calculate the number of turns. That formula is for circular coil. Does anybody know a formula for square coil or how to translate?
    Thanks.

    Re: Formula for Square coil?

I suspect it is related to a round coil of the same perimeter by a constant. I noticed that when I take a round coil and make it square, the inductance reduces to about 96% the round value. So, not much difference.

Hi Claude, take thirty meters of wire and make a desired coil, no matter what a size or shape. It is a well proven lenght. Sid

That's a great formula How solder affects coil?

Besides, do you think solder affects negatively the coil? I explain myself: because could not figure out how to make coil then insert it in a square PVC tube, I used a multi-wired cable and want to solder each end with the next one, so forming a spiral, two remaining ends conected to circuit. Soldering like that each turn affects negatively the sensitivity?

Hi Claude, the solder will have no influence. Imagine what a portion energy it can absorb compared to the coil crossection. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Sid
