  • Coils for P.I

Hi. Can anyone tell me how less is the sensitivity in a P.I detector if i use second coil for the input signal (the receiver coil under the transmiter coil)?
    Thanks

    Hi Geo,

I doubt you would notice the difference over a single coil; that is if both coils have the same turns. By using separate windings for transmit and receive, you can sometimes have more turns on the receive. This is to do with the input impedance of the receive circuit which can accomodate more inductance than the transmitter part. Signal is proportional to turns squared, but then so is pickup noise, so you can win out in electromagnetically quiet areas.

    Eric.
