NOT Copper wire to wind coils???

Has anyone tried using the new low resistance carbon fibre cables to wind coils??

I thought it might help with ground capacitance, shelding (or rather the lack of the requirement for one) problems and the fact that any detector can "see" it's own search head.

Any suggestions / ideas??

My opinion:

VLF not like high Q (low resistance) coils.

Pi - With low resistance coil, You are getting more current across the coil. Capacitance depends on space between wires. Resistance of wire has small influence on the coil capacitance.

Where have you seen low-resistance carbon fibre? Should be lightweight, at least.

Carl, Would'nt this type of low resistance carbon

be present and the same as the ones used for the sparkplug leads of most petrol engines?

Can't rememeber where I saw it, I just used Google and did a search.

I know the company that makes it is in the USA.

Resistance of this wire is about 0.01Ohm per metre, and the thinnest they do is about 24awg. Could be great for PI's though.

I think you misunderstand.

What I meant is that it has the same resistive characteristics as metal wire, but any detectros is influanded by it's own search head metallic content. If this could be eliminated by using carbon wire, what might be the benefits?

Now I understand the point.

I made many vlf search heads, and never think
about own influence.
Maybe interesting only for the receive coil.
Emitted lines of force can not touch transmit coils.
I can not imagin the benefits.

Effects may be different on Pi, I dont know.
