Why are coils round when a far greater greater area can be searched if the coils where shaped as a long rectangular shape
i.e. A coil of 120mm Diameter with 70 Turns has a area of 11310sq mm and total wire length of 26389 mm.
Where as a rectangular coil of length 435 * 26 mm has the same area and with 28 turns almost the same length of wire.
Does the inductance change or any other values change. ????

    Re: Coil Shape

there is a critical value of a distanse for PI coil. that sharply falls down the sensitivity. to my sorry, these notes I meet/read/ in Russian, at Kolokolov's web site. it was really tested. so the width is NOT more less than 60-80 mm for any coil form.
