  • DFX coil

This is coil Whites Super 12 for DFX. I see that inside are not only wires, but some passive elements. Who know values?

I can see two small caps in RX, that corrects phase relationship and two resistors probably related to compensation. But I don't understand what are that small ring and circle.
Actually it does not really matters the values of that components because they are can vary with different coils.

There is additional question: why internal coil have much thicker wiring then outside? RX is outside and TX inside?

Probably TX is the outside coil and RX is the internal one. It's possible the RX to have more turns to achieve better sensitivity.

There is also a thermistor for temp compensation. TX is on the outside, TX & feedback on the inside. RX is a smaller gauge for more windings, TX is larger to maintain a lower R.

It's the same with XLT coil except of caps.

Does anyone know what is different between the older Whites coils that run at 6khz and the newer DFX that runs at 3khz and 15khz? It would be the same coils for the XLT and the Eagle II SL.
I have used an older coil (Eagle II) on the DFX by setting it to 3khz only. It works great on depth but the discrimination is way different. I opened the 6" blue max and there are 2 caps and 2 resistors and I see by the xray of the DFX coil it also has 2 caps and 2 resistors.
I wanted to play with the caps to bring the blue max closer to 3khz freq.
But I cant figure out what what do they do in the DFX coil that allows it to work at both freq.bChecking the plug resistance, I find 37 ohms between pins 2 and 3 counting clockwise from the notch, that's the 2 pins closest together, and pin 1 and the center pin 3 ohm. On the Blue max its 56 ohms 2 to 3 and 1.6 ohms between center and pin 1 Tomorrow I will measure the caps and inductance in the Blue max and inductance in the DFX coil. The DFX coil is the standard 9.5"
Can anyone shed some light on this?
