Here the way that i measure the turns.
I use a magnet on the rotor and a magnet contact on the arm of the lathe, that drive one simple calculator.

Hahaha... i agree.
Of course it is and very easy than to construct a digital counter!!!
But... i am waiting for the results of J_P test. Who knows...... despite it did not worked for me
