How have you managed to get the Tesoro coil working on the RedHeat? The inductance values are far too high, according to your previous measurements.

As the pins are very similar i managed to push the pin into redheat and hold it whilst i turned it on ,when redheat is turned on it bleeps on startup, so if it didnt bleep i just kept turning plug around and kept trying until it bleeped,i knew if i turned plug round four times and no sound was heard that it wouldnt work, first attempt no sound, secound attempt bleeped but didnt sound right third time nothing then on the last turn it sounded off like it normally does so i managed to get a couple of turns on the locking screw that holds it in place so i could try it,machine runs on 8AA batts but you can connect 9volt and only run on low power,i did this to minimize damage just in case,i tried the web coil first as you told me values on the old tesoro 5 pins were similar to the readings on redheat,so i looked on forum to see some values of the polo 4 pins and they were similar so i presumed my web coil wouldn't be to far out from readings of redheat, coil worked perfect nice clear twoway signals and discrim worked fine aswell but i wasn't getting very good distance(got about 5 inches on hammered penny)so i thought i would connect the 8AA batts and try in high power it worked fine but still not as good as original redheat coil(there was about 3 maybe four inches diff between the two coils, and yes i tried the tesoro DD coil and that worked the same as the web coil,do you think maybe tv guy who done readings got it wrong on the DD coil?id like your input on this, hope you can understand explanation as its a bit long winded but i wanted to be thorough, cheers Wayne

Your experiments appear to confirm the rumor that the RedHeat is a derivative of the Tesoro machines. But why the 4-pin Tesoro coil should work is a mystery. Perhaps your friend made a mistake with measurements, or possibly there are some other components in the search head that could cause erroneous inductance readings. I have lots of 5-pin Tesoro coils, but no 4-pin types. Maybe someone else has a Tesoro 4-pin coil they could measure?

i put the web coil on again to do some air tests to see how it performed and ill tell you what i did notice on doing it,you know when you get a target close the coil and you get that double bleep(some people say that this is an indication of the recovery speed of your machine)but i think its just and overload as the items close to coil, anyway the web coil is doing this all the time on the redheat right up to six inches on hammered penny just get that double bleep up to the coils limit of six inches, does this mean its sensitive or just because its not the correct coil for it?oh yea i nearly forgot to mention the coil i have on the red heat is a four pin 8.5 widescan, tesoro make these coils but the four pins was not around when the redheat was built but there was a 5 pin 8.5 widescan around when it was built and if you remember i told you that the redheat coil does have five wires inside two double up to one pin on the black wire theres an inner and outer strand going to one pin making it into four pin.Any wiser now?

If there's a double beep when the target is far from the coil, then this usually indicates that the RX wires are swapped over.

Hi could you please give me an inductance reading from one of your 5pin tesoro coils as i have a four pin polo coil without a plug so id like to try and get this coil to run on redheat, these are readings from redheat polo coil

                wires red,black,outer /5.6MH
                wires white,green/5.4MH
ive turned conector around to a diff place and i now have the coil working whithout the double bleep,so if you can confirm that tesoro coils are running @ these specs and you now know that coils work on redheat maybe we can get our heads together and work out the wires from my tesoro four pin to the redheat, cheers wayne

The Tesoro coils with the 5-pin connector have approximate inductances of TX=6mH and RX=6.5mH.

Ive managed to pin out all the wires and pins now and coil works but i only have a four pin web coil and DD coil to try,any one know what inductance readings are on the four pins, and would 6.5MH and 6MH be close enough
to work going by the redheat readings,im about to do some air tests to see how the web coil works with discrim etc,ill post results later compared to proper redheat coil, cheers wayne

coil works fine double bleeps when targets are close to coil, discrim works fine too, but the coil lacks depth as it will only give 6" on victorian penny, can you remember the wire colors in the 5 pin tesoros ?the ones on the redheat are green, red, white, black+an outer strand also that connects to the black,im really convinced that the 5 pin tesoros will work better on the redheat any suggestions?

                        Redheat coil stripped down pics

Hi out of the two redheat coils i have this one is not performing as should be its about 2 " off depth compared to the other coil and it wont discrim a small nail even on full discrim,so i thought id open her up so you can see whats goin on inside, enjoy lads

This was the coil that i had checked on induction meter, red, black, outer wire pins 1,2 5.6MH and white, green pin numbers 3,4,5.4MH,can you see any probs at a glance?

So, you have another coil of the same make and model?

Maybe you could compare the inductances and resistances of the two coils?

A lower reading on the coil with inferior performance would indicate a shorted winding.

                            edit:
I know that sounds obvious, but I did not read where you had done that comparison.

The coil in these pics is a 9" redheat polo and the other coil is a redheat 8.5 2D wide-scan,would the values differ from coil to coil if diff sizes or would they differ on each individual coil anyway, sorry im new to all this,i did a continuity test and the bare wire thats pinned to the black goes to the shield, the other coil 8.5 is far superior to the polo, ill get the other induction reading on the 2D coil then to see where we stand, cheers
