Stockade Peg Coil Winder

Variation on coil winder with "stockade pegs", set at crossing angles.

Idea is to create a channel for wire to compress coil. Hopefully, put foil into channel first (will it tear? do I care?), use dfbowers varnish bath to coat wires, then when dry, remove and wrap foil for shield.

Actual plastic channel material probably better... but haven't found any yet.

I made this very sloppy, by eyeball, my drill press too small to do proper job, but better craftsmen maybe make it work???

Stockade Coil Winder in Use

Quick test with stockade-peg coil winder. I learned:

1. Be neater with foil.

2. First wrap a "guide string" to press the foil deep into the notches of the crossed pegs, and shape the foil by temporarily wrapping a clothesline thickness cord around the peg forms. Maybe a better foil or fine wire mesh is preferred.


But even with quick-and-dirty test, I made a coil that was fairly good, just a couple of places stray wires got off track. Removing coil and wrapping foil went pretty easy.

The coil is not nearly as compact and neat as when wound using dfbowers method; however, there is no problem removing since the foil eliminates any sticking to the form. It may have some potential.
