Hi, experts and beginners, need some of your collective brainpower to help troubleshoot a problem with my Soverign GT, quick background I purchased the GT used the problem it was described as very low hours, after careful examination I found this not to be true. There was a lot of corrosion on the circuit boards, the switches are a little soft in that they don't snap into place but they work, the knobs move more easily than I would expect. The coil cover with silicone on and when removed they were chips dense and scratches obviously more where then stated. OK that' said as far as returning the unit or what should be done to make up for the poor representation, that ship has sailed and am not concern . I want to turn this into a learning experience. If I can get this straightened out I would like to try to tackle making some coils possibly building a hammerhead, hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction so I'm able to learn as we go along. I'm willing to put in as much time and effort to figure this out. Thanks in advance

OK that' said I'll get to the problem
buried one penny 6 inches, a quarter at 5 inches, a Dime at 2 inches, and a silver bagel bracelet 3 x 2.5" at 1 foot
I can detect all of these without too much of a problem. My concern is when setting the threshold is erratic it will not stay steady it is like a pulse very erratic, I've tried all of the settings from several of the other forums and cannot seen to smooth out. If I removed the coil I can set the threshold with no problem and it stays steady

What I have done so far
    1) I clean the coil head up removed all the silicone.
    2) opened the control box removed the circuit boards clean them thoroughly with contact cleaner and a soft toothbrush examined the boards with a 10 power jewelers loop for any burn spots, or solder spars. Bad connections
    3) resodded the paper clip that is attached to the foil shield, it was barely holding on.

Next I took some readings with my meter if you would take a look at them maybe they will reveal something to you. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Any other readings you would like le tme know how you want them performed i will post them this is what I have so far.

10in Tornado 1000 coil 4 wires red, black, yellow, white
    Inductance Measurement meter set 20mH
black, positive leads on red 1.05
red, positive leads on black 1.05
yellow, positive lead on white 10.04 fluctuating up to 10.23
white, positive lead on yellow 15.28 fluctuating up to 15.51

Resistance measurement meter set at 20k
    red and black 000
    yellow and white 1.12

    PIN OUT
    RED 1, black 2, white 3, yellow 4

    thanks

Hi, thanks to a forum member for explaining that only red and black wires were the only important measurements
and that induction should read around .990mH to 1.02 and resistance 1.80 to 2.00
MY induction is 1.05 mH and resistance 2.35 ohms which appears hi but I don't think is too far above to be causing a problem what do you think any opinions

You should be fine with those numbers.
