  • Coil Form???

    Hi.
I made a coil for my TDI with perimeter 200cm.
Now i can make a round coil housing with 61 cm diameter or a square housing with dimentions 50x50.
Wich form has better performance, the round or the square or they are the same!!!!

    Why not hexagon?

It is more difficult to make the coil housing.
But the answer remain...... with the same perimeter, who form has the best performance??

Not sure about square vs round, but in elliptical vs round, I prefer elliptical form. Why? It's simple, think about the sensitivity of a smaller coil, which the elliptical form possesses, but also offers the greater coverage. Will the round form give better depth? Yes, a round form will go deeper. However, a round form will not find the smaller targets of a smaller coil. Elliptical form seems to be a better compromise. Don't forget, you could make an elliptical form as large as you like if you want depth.

I could be wrong. It's a preference. Some prefer depth. Others, sensitivity on smaller objects.

I did some experimenting with my 2nd coil and it works. it goes much deeper, I think I want it in an elliptical form. I just don't know how to go about making the housing. I'll be looking forward to your posting

          Hi Mario.
I am interesting for the max depth (60cm coil it is not for coin hunting).
I have a round housing from thin plastic pipe. If it will be easy to press it and to make elliptical, i will make it and i"ll inform about the results. Other way???????
