  • Large coil for ACE 250

OK, so I have an ACE 250 detector sitting in my garage (with the original coil broken) and I was thinking about what to do with it, and I watched the show meteorite men (I know you here everyone getting interested in big coils because of them) and I decided it would be cool to build a ultra large meteorite/buried buick coil for it. It would be usefull for finding such things as metal doors over mine shafts that have since been covered with dirt, large meteorites, farm dumps, large relics, bunkers, etc.

Anyway, how big of a coil could the ace 250 take? And how deep of a target could it potentially find? I understand these are relative questions, and I do plan on doing my own research, I just need a place to start.

    Thanks

    Re: Large coil...

    Hi,

    homemade coil for ACE250?

    Forget this idea, please.
The ACE-head is including: tx/rx coils (it is trivial), capacitors and one little electronic panel (transmitter? and/or receiver preamplifier?... i think), and without these electronic parts cant working...

If you have using your Garrett for meteorit-hunting, the best way going to ACE250 distributor.
28x22cm DD coil it is good choice. Price in the Hungary cca. 36,000 HUF -- 180 USD. For other country, Google it is your friend.

Large coil meteorite detectors are pulse induction with simple mono coils. The Ace is a VLF with an induction-balanced coil, which is much more difficult to do correctly. The largest induction-balanced coil I can think of is the 25" Magnum which was made for the older White's 6kHz detectors. So it's feasible, but not practical nor easy.

          Homemade Garrett ACE-250 coils

Coil schematic, recommendations and results for homemade ACE-250 coils you can find here:

          http://www.md4u.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3542

I have measured my Garrett PROformance ACE coil 6.5"x9"

          Pins 1-4 TX 4.3 Ohm 2.84 mH
          Pins 2-3 RX 24.7 Ohm 2.63 mH

You can see different resistance from 15 to 40 Ohm for RX coil because 100 Ohm balance potentiometer is inside of coil.

If you need connector for your homemade ACE-150, ACE-250, ACE-350 coil search eBay for:
