  • How does this work?????

A friend of mine, some years ago, worked for a transformer building company, so the made his own coils for an older Garrett 5.5Khz machine.

What he said to me, and I do not know where he moved to ask him questions is, he hooked one of the wires up to his detector, turned it on, the tuning was set in the middle of the settings, he began to wind, and when the audio sound came in, he stopped winding.

then he said he gave it some more wires, for the winding around the detector shaft, and said that way he could build a pretty precise coil.

    He was an Electrical Engineer.

So what did he hook up, the Tx wire, one end of it? Or the Rx wire? I am a bit in the dark on the ACTUAL COMPLETE procedures he used... I also remember he said he put in a Farraday shield so that the grass would not affect the coil.

Nobody knows (song by Leonard Cohen:-)

    Melbeta,
Do not expect an answer to this question. From the postings, which you send to this forum lately, I did conclude that you intend to produce windings for very precise search loops. I see no point in (even if you use such search heads in meteorite locators). Production of a winding for search loop lasts only a few seconds, as your old friend Charles Garrett shows in the Yutube. Your goal is too strange and mysterious to me. I'll explain why I think so in an email that I will soon write for you.
