  • D coil shape

All, made a Tx coil - now its off the template - its not a D shape.

The straight portion of the D has a curve. Is the OK ????

    Or

Does the D have to have a STRAIGHT part - is a curve ok....

Part of the reason I ask is - if I leave it alone its 5.996mH - off the bat.

If I get the straight bit straight it L goes down to about 5.7nH - and I cant add more turns easily....

No, it hasn't to be straight, even better if it is a bit "oval".

      curve is ok

maybe it is easier to null

you only can have problems to get coil enclosure the most have a straight middle part
but i can be that your coil fits in there too

i dont know how big your curve is

Yes, coil enclosure sometimes can be limiting factor, i also experienced that once.

Thanks for the replys guys. I really do want to make a practical unit. I will post to completion.
            Tx coil I spoke of...
            http://i944.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/DSCN1311.jpg

            I made it with 30SWG (0.315mm copper) 115 turns 5.99mH
            210mm wide dimension

I will freeze the shape with polyureathane resin

              Coil direction

I know you all know this. I have read about it but hey Im still not sonvinced I get it.

The TGSL coils write up says wind both the same - a D coil - clockwise. say Tx.
I did another for Rx Clockwise again - start and stop in same place as the first one.

Now this is my confusion Lay Tx coil down on table... ok... get Rx coil and lay opposite Tx coil with small overlap as instructions -- What is not said is.

              1) do you flip Rx coil on vertical axis ????? So turns go Anti clockwise
              2) do you have only mirror image of Tx coil - no flip or what?

              http://i944.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/IMG_0002.jpg

              lost as ever

                Hi Steve ,

I know it is confusing , but as far as I know it does not matter as long you get a single beep when a target passes the coil at a normal height.

With a double beep you should reverse the Rx leads ....

                  5.7mh

Theres nothing wrong with 5.7mh so make it the D shape you wanted infact thats Tesro manufacured spec for the TX coil, just make sure your RX is 6.2mh

                  Regards
