  • Coil shell

    All, finished my coils earlier.

I brushed polyester resin all into the coils - the stuff for glass fiber - cheap gives stiff uniform finish.

I did regular aluminium foil sheilds - all taped up with leads poking out.

All I need now is a shell!

I was thinking of wrapping coils in glass fibre tape and resin - and having an open design - anyone reject this idea?? Im nervous the glass is mineral and may affect ground balance? or detection range?

I want to finish this later this week to use on hol the week after..

know that fiberglas casting from german forum should make no trouble

if you the possibility use rest pieces (waste material) from carbon fibre for shell and graphit powder with glue as shield

    cheap on ebay

Thanks for the reply. I may get it done in Glass fiber.

I would buy some glass fiber bandage/ tape and wrap and infuse with resin.

How is your detector going - do you still have problems?

Probably the quickest way to get something that works to test with but pay very close attention to the null on your coils as you are doing the glass. Pretty hard to keep the coils from moving in relation to each other.

You can also easily make a small vacuform machine (lots on youtube) and build forms out of wood and use ABS plastic. It is very light weight and easy to work with and glue up.

Thanks john - I took delivery of the glass today. I will have a think about the ABS and Vac - maybe an idea for a MKII if this one aint too good!

At this level Im playing, avoiding jobs in the house, you know right..
