  • teknetics T2 coil problem

My father-in-law has just purchaced a T2 special edition and has a broken coil ie when the sens is turned up it gets a lot of feedback(iratic chatter) can this be solved by cutting the plug off and resoldering the wires back on. It aint the machine coz its been tested with a 4" sniper coil.can it be a bad conection?

Try tapping gently at the coil connector, the cable, and the coil itself, to isolate the problem. It's probably an intermittent connection. It could either be a poor connection in the connector, [almost] broken wire in the cable, or a dry joint in the coil housing. I had a similar problem with a 12" Garrett Crossfire coil, where a connection between the aluminium and copper wires had gone intermittent. Tesoro coils sometimes suffer from a bad connection to the electrostatic shield. Fishers often break at the cable, close to the coil. With a T2, I don't know what common faults they have, so it may not be repairable. Good luck!

T2's (and F75's) are chattery when 'wound up' fully, and do pick up electrical interference. They are quieter with the 5 inch coil simply because it has a smaller size recieve coil.Try it somewhere you believe to be 'electromagnetically quiet', eg. a rural area. Be aware the discrimination setting has a very significant effect on sensitivity - disc settings around 20-25 give the lowest sensitivity.
