  • Help! Shielding a spiral coil

Hiya Guys, thanks for looking in,.... I am winding a spiral coil,.. also a 'basketweave' one, its for a Surf type P.I., I am using self adhesive copper tape for the Faraday shield, & will then resin pot the lot,.. question, do I need to shield the top side of the coil??? Seems to me, if it is for screening 'ground effect', it should only need shielding on the bottom/underneath,... but then, I'm a daft newbie, what do I know??? LOL.

Would like your expert input, before I pot it up!!!

Shielding is not only for ground effect but also for stray RF, especially in PI which is wideband. Also, if you want to be able to go in salt water then the top shield is needed.

HI, anyone got a photo of a good upper/lower screen for a PI coil.

Ive made a DD and used foil. But I will need to make a PI coil for a surfmaster kit and screen it as best I can.
