  • Which IGSL, Musketeer, or TGSL coil??

    Hiya, guys,

Just about finished my first MD, Surf PI 1.2 longboard, Thanks Andy!! (Silverdog)

New years project is the IGSL. I have both circuit boards, and about to start building, but which one????
I know they are pretty much the same, except the coils/oscillator section, but as a newbie, which set of coils am I likely to have the best chance of a good result with????

I realise the performance of the system is going to be down to how good I make/null the coils, so I am reading all info on the forum,... but, is one set easier than the other, or is there not much in it???

TIA, Cheers, {Happy New Year, BTW!}, Fred

    Hello Comp,

i think best and easiest way is to choose for what project you can get easy a used or a cheap new coil
most you can get and old 5pin tesoro so build a igsl tgsl coil version
a better coil you cant do by yourself so save your time
to do a selfmade coil that works so good as a laboratory proofed
takes a lot of nights and coffee believe me

if you do a diy it is equal which one you do both make a lot of work

    regards bernd

For a first IB project the IGSL is not the easiest one on this forum, although if you work carefully it is within most peoples capabilities ( a scope is really helpful) but if you make your own coil you're never going to know if it's the circuit or the coil or both that is the problem.
I would go for the Tesoro coil version, you can pick up a five pin coil on Ebay for little money and you will have a much better chance of ending up with a detector which is usable
      My 2 pence worth

OK Guys, thanks for your input,... I see what you say, I will have enough headaches getting the board up and running with a known, good coil,.... while trying to make a coil at the same time is just asking for trouble???????

Trouble is, have you seen the cost of the coils??? I am trying to make a MD because I cant afford to buy a really good one!!!

I WILL take your good advise,... I will look to buy a used coil, and then get the board running, and then, perhaps, try coil making afterwards.....

I am starting to build up the ISGL TGSL board, I take it I can use any Tesoro coil, with a 5 pin plug????? There is one up for sale on Ebay, a concentric type????

Plus, I will look on the Trade/buy/sell section of the forum.

Thank you for your time and trouble,

        Cheers, Happy New Year, Fred

Rapid do this one, which I think is about the right size for the IGSL board, (Bit more expensive, though....)

Thanks for the links Qiaozhi, unfortunately Maplin won't deliver to Europe but I see that Rapid will. I'll ask them how much they want because bought in France they want an arm and a leg
