Whelp, it's been about 6 months and I figured I would post a follow up. The Equinox 800 is a stellar park hunter, but can't handle the black sand. Currently rocking the CoilTek 10X5 which happens to be an amazingly stable search coil in almost all conditions. I have about 100 hours in detecting and messing with all the settings. I have never found a way to hunt on the beach without the detector singing with every sweep. Truly a nice detector in all conditions, except the black sand beach(s).
