My son is currently over in china visiting some of the mental detector manufacturers, seems like they have moved from the copying of detectors into the design and manufacturing, they are even starting to install the ADC boards boards and coil handshake into their own branded detectors, on a video chat I could see that they have come up in leaps and bounds, their new VLF detector is the most sensitive that I have seen, but their new P.I detector may be the one that puts the shivers up existing detector manufacturers, I suspect that there has been a major effort put into the PI Gold detectors, but having them add chipped coils and data handshakes into the detectors will lock out non factory after market coils. This I do find to be amusing at the very least.

You can bet they have reverse engineered some of the US machines for sure.

One of the Chinese engineers has developed over 350 different detectors, I bet that most are the same concept but different boxes, but out of a population around 1000,000,000 you should expect a few bright sparks.Comment

yeah the whole cloning and copying dynamic seems to be shifting to india, personally seen a nice whites clone out of calcutta.
there will always be copycats and a customer to buy them, if china is shifting to novel home produced machines it could be interesting.
the problem is as always quality control, if they can build good working machines that are robust at a good price they will sell.
but they have to have iphone level quality control, and be strong enough to last multiple seasons.
the 70 quid clone that just about lasts 14 days at the beach before being tossed in the rubbish wont cut it here.Comment
