  • Whites Treasuremaster PI3000 detector

I have a question in regards to the Whites Treasuremaster PI3000 detector.
The Whites Treasuremaster PI1000/PI2000/PI3000 is actually widely known as a pulse induction metal detector and often used by divers. Available schematic diagrams also show clearly that they are PI designs. So far so good. But recently I stumbled about pictures of Whites PI3000 with in total three different coils models. One was the old style one which was used with the PI1000 and PI2000 as well, then one with a Pulse Diver 950 coil and the third one was a PI3000 with an AMPHIBIAN II coil.

Looking closely at the image of PI3000 (coil) with the AMPHIBIAN II coil, you can see the US Patent No. US4293816. Checking this patent, I was surprised to read that it is a patent for a balanced search loop for metal detectors and has nothing to do with a pulse induction detector.

Now comes my actual question. Is it possible that a Whites PI3000 with an AMPHIBIAN Coil II design is actually a VLF detector and not a PI detector? And does someone have information’s why Whites has three different coils for the PI3000?

IMO the pic you took from listing. AMPHIBIAN II coil is VLF and does nothing with PI3000 model be cause sure PI. does not fit.

Someone put the wrong decal on the coil, that's all. Maybe the unit was sent in to get a replacement coil, and the tech grabbed the wrong decal. Decals were not applied until the coil was used.

        Thanks for the reply....
I know that the PI1000/PI2000 and PI3000 are PI detector designs. That's why I was a bit confused to see an attached AMPHIBIAN II coil (decal) to the PI3000. But it's probably like Carl said, that the technician grabbed the wrong decal for a replacement coil.

The image "1.jpg" which you posted is what kind of coil? The one which referes to the US patent No.?

I seem to recall that Whites made a VLF for beach hunting. Same box as the Surf master PI. Maybe that label was for the VLF and not the PI?

            Found this Surfmaster II

Yes, that's what the label was intended for.

                    Hi KT315,

thanks for the information on the Amphibian Coil image and Surfmaster II manual. Someone else told me before that the Surfmaster II VLF detector is based on the Whites Classic. But i do not know which Classic Version. There are many Whites Classic schematics ... Classic I, Classic II, Classic III and others. Which one was actually used for the Surfmaster II?

                      hi GM
Surfmaster II is Coinmaster Classic II. both have same board. Whites uses specific own ID code on every his board, so both boards are marked 505-017 -B.Click image for larger version

Damn, this board look like it's made by an amateur hobbyist in his basement.
I've always wondered how much there machines can be improved with proper design and high precision resistors & components.

It's an old design. You can see that from the hand-drawn tracking, and the 4-band resistors.

and high precision resistors & components.

which? all those modern resistors and components are making in China. chineses decreased a diameter of resistors' pins significantly. i can not look at that... crazy industry...
also they love to send fake chips.
