I have a question in regards to the Whites Treasuremaster PI3000 detector.
The Whites Treasuremaster PI1000/PI2000/PI3000 is actually widely known as a pulse induction metal detector and often used by divers. Available schematic diagrams also show clearly that they are PI designs. So far so good. But recently I stumbled about pictures of Whites PI3000 with in total three different coils models. One was the old style one which was used with the PI1000 and PI2000 as well, then one with a Pulse Diver 950 coil and the third one was a PI3000 with an AMPHIBIAN II coil.
Looking closely at the image of PI3000 (coil) with the AMPHIBIAN II coil, you can see the US Patent No. US4293816. Checking this patent, I was surprised to read that it is a patent for a balanced search loop for metal detectors and has nothing to do with a pulse induction detector.
Now comes my actual question. Is it possible that a Whites PI3000 with an AMPHIBIAN Coil II design is actually a VLF detector and not a PI detector? And does someone have information’s why Whites has three different coils for the PI3000?
