  • Nokta Legend is broken

When I inserted the original headphone adapter, the Nokta Legend turned off and would not turn on again. Disassembly of the device showed a short circuit in the stm32f765 controller. After drawing the diagram, it turned out that the connector contact is separated from the controller by only resistor R73 (1k). And then it goes to 97pin (Port-E0) of the controller. There are no protective diodes or zener diodes!

That's pretty surprising considering the STM pins are ESD-rated for 2000V. Must have been a heckava zap. Still under warranty?

I've collected quite a few Quasar ARM metal detectors and a few Quasar F3 metal detectors. I wouldn’t say that stm32 is highly protected from static voltage; I’ve had about 5 of them die just from touching them with my fingers.
The device was released in May 2023. There is no guarantee because they sold it to me without documents. There was a complete set, even a cap.
Nokta helped me find the importer of my device (by serial number). But the importer ended up in a country neighboring me and naturally does not want to provide any guarantees.

Today Nokta contacted me and offered to replace the control unit free of charge.

Nokta aren't Minelab. That said, the Manticore runs rings around the Noktas for sensitivity to small gold, BUT, given the price differential and spectacular service, I'd go Nokta every time. Seems Nokta are the new Whites.
