  • Phase Shift measure!!!!

    Hi.
I want to make a double receiver to locate a cave as at patent US.4079309.
This receiver must have two input coils (vertically the one to the other) and measures the difference of the phase between the two signals.
I have a question....., who method is more sensitive, to use a chip like NE565 or 74HC7046, or to connect the signals to a fet and check the output???
Something like a vlf detector but at the position of the oscillator to exists the second coil with the preamplifier!!!!

    Your opinion please!!!

    Regards

To me this method seem prone to errors of tilt and orientation of the cart. Otherwise it is a narrowband CW system.

Who is your opinion about the best method (more sensitive) for phase shift measuring????

There is nothing wrong with the phase measurement, it is only impossibility to maintain the cart orientation and tilt that makes it troublesome.
If you can compensate by, say, gyro, you are in.

The question is "Who is the better method to measure the phase shift"??

            XOR gate.

If you need to assess if one signal is before the other, xor/pll output will do.

If you need to quantify the difference a phasemeter is good.

                Digital phase meter with 74HCT74.

Google can't translate good from Turkie to Greek.

                  Thank you.

I want to measure the phase difference from the signals of two receivers tuned at the same frequency....
I want to has the ability to read phase diference of one degree or less

I have a schematic for an analog phase meter but I dont think it would have 1 degree resolution - plus it would need calibarting to what?

A bit beyond amateur electronics here I think..

The low pass filtered output of an XOR gate scales linearly from 0 to 180 degrees. With a resistive divider you can make full scale read 1.80 volts on a digital multimeter.

The inputs to the XOR gates have to be square waves, otherwise it'll throw the reading off.

Thanks Dave. At longrangelocators Seden gave something similar but i have a little free time so i am looking for the best.
I try to make a detector for caves.
