Hi
I have a Velleman Metal Detector kit K7102 and the Manual recommends an optional buzzer SV4/12-S. Looking at my Velleman catalog, this buzzer has the following Specifications. Operating Voltage 8-16VDC, Rated Voltage 12VDC, Current consumption 15mA, OSC frequency 3.2 kHz, Sound level 85dB. This kit operates on a 9 DCV battery.
I bought an electrical outlet box and cover plate as an enclosure for this kit and plan to attach a pvc tube to the side of the box to make a pinpointer for my metal detecting hobby. Of course this will entail installing the ferrite core and copper windings near the front end of the tube.
I went to several Velleman distributors, but they didn't list the buzzer recommended. So decided to go back to the Radio Shack store in my Village where I bought the kit K7102, to see if they carried a substitute buzzer and they sold me the following: Radio Shack Buzzer #273-0074, with the following specs. on the bag. PC-Board, 12VDC Piezo, Mini-Buzzer, 3.0-16VDC, 4.1kHz, 7mA max. at 12VDC, 70dB min. at 30cm/12VDC, 4100 plus or minus 500Hz.
Now that I'm ready to proceed with building this kit I'm having some misgivings about the buzzer I bought and have the following questions.
Will this Radio Shack buzzer work and will the lower power battery reduce the sound level of the buzzer ?
BTW, what does 30 cm mean ?
Thanks for answers to my questions and please add any other comments you care to offer.
