I worked for Tektronix for 31 years so I have a bit of experience with TEK scopes and instrumentation in general.

I was thinking this one to start with

only saw a couple of Rigols on amazon, is siglent the same, guess there all the same just different logo and branding. I was thinking of this one to start with.
Not much, just basics to practice with since i never used a scope, will have a warranty and easy return if neccasary, a lot of videos on youtube with good results and people setup and using, so great info and help.
Heres the reason im asking all this, i am fighting cancer and cant work because of insurance reason So i am looking into the possiblity of selling pi meteal detectors, or coils, after i make them, i will only for now make them for beach seeing as how they seem easier, not a lot of knobs ect, and a great selection of coils with all the different models on here and coil choices.

Despite they are not. The devil is hidden in the details - as always.
Rigol and Siglent, despite both Chinese brand, are competitors, both with their own strong RD teams
and are not the same. They are located wide apart too: Rigol in Beijing and Siglent in Shenzhen.
The primacy of Rigol in the manufacture of oscilloscopes from a decade ago is already seriously threatened
by other manufacturers, especially by Siglent. Par example: SIGLENT SDS5000X Oscilloscope is a winner of
2019 World Electronics Achievement.
But it is true, that some Chinese scope brands are sold under other brand names, as par example Hantek
are sold under at least 3 other different brand names. Only sold, producer is still Hantek. Same with Owon.

If you consider less expensive PC based solution (but good enough for MD home lab), then take a look

Purchasing PC based solution you decide for less commodity from start (installation, PC synchronization,
drivers problems etc) to real work with and (im)possible mobility. Reason to be cheaper.
Standalone scope is always better in working commodity, but somewhat expensive.
Anyway, think about standalone unit, if you need to go cheap, try your luck with something like this:
(with Hitachi you can count on quality parts inbuilt like electrolytic capacitors etc)

Metal detectors for beach use are most delicate ones.
"Hundred" knobs, or no knobs at all; doesn't mean a thing.
Important is what's under the hub.
Beaches are most difficult "ground" to fight with.
PI detector for beach hunting is holly grail among PI detectors.
It must have serious GEB functionality. So few of them are having it.
You must have serious project on your mind; otherwise do not waste your money on scope at all.
It is temptation to have such tool in a lab as nice digital scope is, i was tempted too.
But than, as WM6 said; devil is in details.
Long story shorter; after a while i realized that i am not that rich to buy digital and suitable one, to be able to see and play with delicate timed signals as in PI detectors.
So i bought an analog one. Not in Tektronix range, but decent enough.
Even better would be to list ebay and look up for real Tektronix, analog one, in good state.
I am sure there are such offers on ebay for acceptable price.

Thanks ivconic, i have been searching ebay put the problem there is all are saying works, and they just plug it in, not tested, to me thats not working, it powers on thats all, and im not taking a chance unless i see at least 1 line, or better have the person hook up the leads and get a square wave test pattern so i can see where his settings for the volts, ect and see this. and most dont come with leads, so that makes me wonder if it was tested, or if it doesnt come with leads the people are buying up yard sale stuff and just powering on and dont know how to do a simple test.

Thanks WM6, will check out the link, money and space to work in is the biggest obstacle right now, only have my pc room, with a small 2ft by 4ft folding table, but my pc and monitor are here too, have a 23inch monitor. I thought of just making coils also,to sell.
I follwed your link, nice unit for sure, price is right, will try to find extra money

found this one right now, not as much mhz as the 100 though, but 20mhz would work, and the screen shows green line in 2 different positions, waiting on seller to see if he will hook up a lead to the test signal and get me a square wave
ebay 20mhz

...if you are really pressed for cash ... build a sampling frontend scope ... should be about $20
plus you will learn some really interesting skills that will be very useful for metal detectors ( PI and VLF ).
