  • Battery chargers

    Hi Guys,

I have a small 12v 1.3ah battery but no charger.

I also have loads of those black molded plugs that hvae a label on them stating 220v input, 12v 500ma output etc. that was just 1 example as I have about 15 of these all with varying outputs from 5v to 13v and various ma etc.

My question is, do I need to go out and buy a charger (I know they are less than £15) or can I just plug one of these, connect to the battery and charge it up that way?

Well each type of battery has to be charged differently. Your adaptors would work
with additional circuitry suited to the battery type you are using. So long story short
    you need a charger...

      if want make use this

just interchange P1 by 1kohm multiturn.
and set the output voltage on 13.8 to 14.4 volt.

        Hi!

I think you are using Pb battery.
The problem of Pb battery is the weight.
The proposed battery charger is good enough.

I am using instead NiCD and NiMH battery.
I am using Maxim 712 and 713 IC to charge them and these IC works fine.
You can found the datasheet and the schematic there: http://www.maximintegrated.com/en/da...ex.mvp/id/1666
You can charge up to 16 elements and at the maximum of 4C.
I used instead always C/2 or C/4 to avoid damage to battery, the slope activated and 268 minutes as maximum time of charge.
        I built a 12V battery pack using 10 elements.
        The total weight is good.

If you are looking for minimum weight instead it is better tu use Lithium battery but they are more expensive.
When you charge them it is better to use a professional charger that check also the temperature.
