Hi
,
I'm looking for a Battery Load Tester for AA, AAA, 9 Volt, 3V coin batteries, C, and D sizes.
Can anyone recommend a good brand and model ? I would like to keep the cost down to $10.00 or less if possible.
In the past I've always relied on a Multi-meter for checking voltage on small batteries, however, a recent occurrence really brought home to me the importance of doing a "Load" test to know the actual output power of a battery. See following paragraph.
My brother recently bought me the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT ("Carrot") and after following the directions in the manual, it was not working properly. I called the dealer and after some discussion, he thought I should phone Garrett, which I did. The technician said I should replace the factory installed battery with a new 9v Energizer. I was told the even though the factory battery checked 9+ volts on my Multi-meter, the power output might be low, causing the problem I was having.
So, I bought a couple of the new 9v batteries suggested and replaced the factory battery with a new one and afterward the AT worked fine ! I did have to practice the button presses a little, but that's normal.
Weather permitting, I'll be taking the AT for a hunt with my brother this weekend ! We will be swinging "dueling Compadre's" !
Back to my opening question, any good recommendations guy's and gal's ?
Thanks,
Todd
