  • Grounding surf 1.2 board

Hi. First of all many thanks to everyone for the invaluable info gathered here
which has helped massively in me getting my surf to work. I might add in a very responsive way!
My question is about grounding the board and the coil shielding.
Could someone please explain in simple terms how to actually achieve this.
At present I have connected the coil to board and have the coax shield tinned at both ends ready to
"ground". My question is where to?
    Many thanks

well one of the coil pins is ground you use that, also make sure your outer layer of your coax cable is connected to it, easy way to test it get your meter and use ground and test the pins, then just take a wire and attach your shield to the outer wire of your coax

      Many thanks for your reply.
I feel I need to explain a little further. On the silver dog board there are two leads for the
coil. I bought a 3 pin aviator plug, attached the two coil wires to the plug and a further wire on the third pin, at the moment
      left loose.
Am I right in thinking this needs to be attached (grounded) to the board somewhere?

Referring to the schematic, you can see that there are only two wires that go the coil. One is connected to the drain of the MOSFET, and the other is connected to GND (0V). Therefore you only need a single-core coax cable to connect this coil, as one of the connections is actually the braided shield of the cable. In your case, you appear to have used a 2-core coax, and are now wondering what to do with the shield. You can either disconnect the wire that is currently connected to 0V and connect the shield instead. Do this at both ends of the cable. Or simply parallel connect the shield with the wire that is connected to 0V. If your coil has a Faraday shield, you will also need to connect this to the cable shield.
