  • THEREMINE circuitry - nothing too deal with

    Hi,
I've just discovered the THEREMINE device.
    It's incredible !!
I'm looking for layout files of the ETHERWARE Theremine but i cannot fint it on the internet.
Does anyone tryed to build this kind of circuitry ?
I'll start making my own SMD version but it's a big job..
    Thanks

I've never built a proper RF one, only a simple optical version ... but I do remember seeing this one in an English magazine:
    http://www.thereminworld.com/epe-sim...eremin-project

I'm sure Google will find you many projects.

        Hi,
I've already explored the net searching for a layout file (.lay or .lay6) but all i can find is schematics.
That's why i think i'll make my own.
        Thanks

            That looks like fun.

I think you need to shield your coil it seems to be picking up you hand.

It's one of the simpler schematics, the theremin, easy to assemble.
I draw the pcb manually with nail polish! (haven't done that way for years)
Because I was restless to see if it's gonna work at least something... anything.
Pitch part obviously is working alright.
Volume part, however; is not working correctly, there must be some flaws in that part.
I am "hooked up" on this and I am considering making more complex design now...
                Madness never ends...

I wonder if it's possible to get that sound from the 1950's sci-fi movies?

That's exactly the instrument they used than for special effects.
Of course it was tube based electronics than.
The Moog is the pioneer in such industry.
By expanding/lengthening or shortening the telescopic antenna for "pitch" I can cover about 5 octaves.
Somewhere within that 5 octaves range; there is famous sound from old movies.
I still remember that famous SciFi movie with Leslie Nielsen when he was very young.
I don't remember the title, but I remember crazy scenes, crazy scenography and even crazier special sound effects!
Later came Star Trek with lot of similar sounds.
And whole a series of similar movies with funny sounds above everything else funny and crazy enough!

When I was learning tubes I found Fred Nachbaur (RIP) website, I also build his Studio Preamp (as in my avatar) sound very nice, there was that Theremin project there too, here's the link

I am preparing a pcb for more complex design now.
                          This will take some time.
When I make something of it; I will report here, for sure.
