  • this guy bought all boards from me. interesting story he told.

    Sir,

I just received your email address through the eBay messaging system. Normally, eBay does not allow buyers and sellers to exchange email addresses. How did you do it?

You were kind enough to offer me the Gerber files of the LC board which I purchased three of from you.

I recently obtained a number of very accurate (PET) non-inductive capacitors which were all measured very carefully at better than 0.002% (@ 23?C) at a lab with traceability back to NIST.

All of these "standard" capacitors are nominally in the 2.2 uf range.

At my bench I have the ability to measure RF Frequencies very accurately down to fractions of a Hz with a GPS based master oscillator and my collection of old HP counters, generators, and spectrum analyzers.

I'm hoping to use your LC circuit, mounted in a temperature controlled box, with very rigid mountings, and very rigid test terminals, to create a series of "secondary" test inductors over a range of rigid, open "Air Dux" coil stock, and use those stable inductors to expand my range of of calibrated (PET) non-inductive capacitors.

These test capacitors and inductors, in a stable temperature environment, with your LC Oscillator board, should allow me to determine component values more accurately than my DE-5000 LCR meter to at least another decimal place.

As I suspect that this will be a long term project, and I will rebuild my test fixture more than once, it will be nice to have extra PC boards so I don't have to take apart the older test fixtures.

It will be nice to have the Gerber files so I could simply order more boards as I develop this project and make modifications in the input circuit to minimize the errors in my homemade component test fixtures.

Thank you again for your kindness.

    Mike

Seems he is in large book commission business, so very busy. We will see.

Boss is to lazy to prepare article scan copy, he wish to sell whole 1978 paper edition:

      Hallo,

der Chef sagt, dass das alles zu umstaendlich waere.
Wollen Sie nicht den Jahrgang vielleicht doch komplett kaufen?
So teuer ist er ja nicht!
      Vielen Dank.

I offered him 5 eur for the article digital scan copy now.
We'll see, if the boss changes his mind.

        Boss and greed always win!
Or probably she has no idea how to make digital scan copy?

"sehr umfangreichen Arbeitsaufwandes" (very extensive workload) ???? For simple digital scan copy??? Jesus Christ !!!!!!

I will have a look through an archive site containing UK and American electronic magazines. The UK ones would often copy/use articles from other magazines.

Thanks. If you are somewhat bored in quarantine, OK, otherwise don't trow away your youth on paper search.

Now this project is fully opened, you can order boards.

                good luck

                • Had a look around some achive stuff, many interesting things but none 100% relevant. Then looked again at KT's link to the circuit and thought it looked like a Peltz osc. with modified feedback.
                  Found this quoting from an earlier "funkschau" magazine about exciter circuits for checking the resonance of IF coils, it includes a Peltz circuit. See what you think;

This is interesting, as I [re]discovered this when nulling the TX and ferrite coils for TOTeM in Chapter 14 of ITMD Edition 1.
However, my conclusion was that the angle was 45 degrees, but I must admit I never measured this very accurately. The actual nulling point was found by trial and error during construction.
I know this is the wrong forum to discuss TOTeM, but I thought it was worth a mention.

Possibly not bang on with topic but I find it still has some relevance to this thread, if developing a piece of test gear and desire/need accuracy.
The link above, referring to the Pelz circuit, had another link within it looking at the relaxation effect of LC oscillators. Whilst KT's Russian/German circuit might not suffer from this effect and the resulting inaccuracy, at the frequencies we are operating would be small. I notice that V1 and V2 of the circuit is in emitter follower mode, it could allow the Base Collector diode effect to give a "false" resonance. The authors solution was to connect diodes in series with each base, in forward bias. Does'nt look very elegant but he says that it works.
                      I'm not in a position to build and test any of these circuits just now but I am interested in what you think and will start building them very soon. The relaxation link;

                      • Hi Mr. KT315, I made this circuit, and it works very well, only if I measure the coil rx of the Idx 35.5 mh I have no result! I can not understand. Thanks for your kind reply.

                        • hi
limitation according the article for this sch is 100mH. so 35.5 has to be normal. what capacitor value you use with the coil testing?

                          Comment

                          • The coil of the Idx use a 33K capacitor. Thanks for replying
