Does it make a difference what type of crystals are used as in Quartz crystal XTAL or ceramic resonator XTALs?

Seems as though ceramic resonators are less PRECISE at holding frequency vs quartz. It really depends on what you are using them for.
Ceramic resonators can be used as the source of the clock signal for digital circuits such as microprocessors where the frequency accuracy is not critical.
Since PRECISE timing is critical in micro processor based pulse detector, I think quartz would be the best choice.

Thank you for your answer, I was asking in reference to the ETI 561 plans. I have built several PI kits from silver dog but was going to build this from scratch with my son and get him started in electronics/metal detectors. You guys are great learned a lot from reading all the post.

How old is the ETI 561 project? Is there any updates on it to make it work better? I’m using the super sensitive BFO instruction with the 4 IC chips I found on the web. I’m going to use the very same parts as listed on the plans although those 2 resisters where a little hard to find over here. The plans list a 6 inch search coil Is there a better search coil to use with it? Don’t mean to be a pest and thanks for the info.
