If I wanted to lengthen the wires or shorten the wires that go to the search head from the controls or change the gauge of the wiring to thicker or stronger wiring, would this effect the performance of the detector. Are there do?s and don?ts when doing this.

A Detectorpro pistol probe. Need a casing upgrade as its fragile and flimsy, was thinking of making it longer or altering the shape, just wondering if chaning the search wires to the controls would make any difference to the performance. Looks a load of rubbish but performs very well as a PI probe.Attached Files

Topfmine, please give us some pictures of the insides of your pistol probe. Good close-ups of both sides of the PCB.
You can put all electronics into a new box, along with a chassis mounted coil connector. You can connect the sensing probe to appropriate cable along with a connector to connect to the main box where the electronics are housed. It is a simple modification done by many Pistol Probe owners on other forums. I already gave you link to other forum where it has been done successfully.
Take good pictures and notes first before disassembly so you'll know which wires go where.

Does the PCB inside the housing resemble this one?Attached Files

I have taken the pro pointer apart without going too far as the wires are glued in which is a pain. I had a peak inside of the electronics but it?s hard to get the lid off and they are different to the picture. I noticed that there were very fine cables going to the Probe coil all the same colour. I also looked at the link, it didn’t show you much, only by what can be done only adding a cable to the coil wires, more about it looking like a gun than anything else. Still has that ugly triangle wedge on the end which would be more slim lined if the battery positioning was done a different way. Are there any other detailed links. It?s quite a delicate body as you can see a crack has formed in the cheap plastic at the Probe to body end.
Anyone know what I would find inside the Probe, most probably glued in. Could I get one of these from a different source with curly cable of the shelf or get the parts to make one.
