  • How to make RF choke?

    Hi,
I wanna try to made RF choke.1mH and 15mH.Any ideas.
I would buy such, but I dont have here aveilable localy. It will be a lot easyer
    Thanks

Very easy take a high value carbon resistor of 1 ,2 or more watt and wind
magneto wire many time to obtain the value desired you must have a inductance meter to measure the value like this one very good and cheap

recommended by me because very precise

      Hi,
Ok.I will try.Buy searching the i-net I found some exponations and the values are not so important to be exacly the same with 12VDC.So I will try to wind with no core and with exact number of turns and wire gangue. So later I can measure somewhere and see.
I have an idea for 1 mH one.But need help for 15mH.How many turns should I try and what wire?

        Hello,
Try looking in old televisions, radios and other old electronics.
        You might even learn something

For your inductors you also need to know what current, and frequency you will be dealing with.

        What is your use?

In general, this carbon resistor is 1 M.

            dumb advice

For a 15mH choke (assuming you don't mean 15uH), unless you intend to use very tiny wire you might need a ferrite core. Toroids are great.

There are many different cores available and they all require different numbers of turns for a given target H value. An air core coil (or using a 1,2, or 5, or 500 watt resistor) is not a good choice.

            Google search "toroid calculator".

              Hi,

              Hi,
              Thanks you all.
I will try with resistor way and later I will try to find proper once!
              I need 1 milihenry and 15 milihenry.

The values of this chokes in general are low, except the winding around ferrite type.
