  • 1.5v battery converter

    Hi.
Before years a member (i don't remember who) posted at forum a schematic of a 1.5v converter to 9V so to replace the 9V batteries with one 1.5 V
    Has someone this schematic??

    Regards

This may be the circuit you are looking for see PDF? I believe the TL496 chip is obsolete? It would work on 1 or 2, 1.5V cells and output 9V.

Check the Maxim web site for a newer parts.

      Hi Altra.
      It seems good.

      Thank you

        Hi Geo,

I found a newer chip from Maxim, Max1675. Keep in mind, when you boost 1.5volt to 9volts it takes a lot of current.

Reading the data sheet the Max1675 can only output 5.5V. Still a nice part 94% eff. at 200mA.

            Thank you Altra.
LT 1073 or 1173 are a good choise for me but first i must find them.

              Geo,
The LT1073 looks good, if you can find one. Here a possible cheap alternative, it's a two transistor switch mode white led driver. It outputs about 3.6v. It might be possible to add a diode doubler and adjust the resistors to get 9V. Simmon Baker posted some similar circuits here not too long ago.

Geo, a man... do you not remember who is... who?...

first time on TL496 I did meet a mention in John Clarke's article Build an induction metal locator. yes, at this time TL496 had been obsolete... then i googled the net... and found the more detailed info on TL499... attached.

                Never buy another 9V battery
Don't buy expensive, short-lived 9V batteries. This little DC-DC converter is adjustable and lets you use two AA, C or D-size cells instead.

                      Thank you KT315.
                      What about the coil inductance???
Also can you find these IC's easy???

Why do you need to buy it?

I think you have L meter?

You need ferite core (toroid will be best) and then wind about 20-30 turns (depends on used ferite) Cul wire >0.45mm on and mesure inductivity. L have to be about 50uH. Not so critical if differs even to 10%. You can even use piece (cut it) of deflection ferite from old CRT TV tube.
