  • help for fluxgate magnetometer for cave detections

    hello all,

I have a Aquascan fluxgate mag (DX 200), I would like to know if with arch geo mini is able to detect caves and voids, thanks for the response.

Very possibly, depending on the mineralization of the surrounding soil, and the sensitivity if the DX200. They don't spec sensitivity, and my guess is they use the FGM-3 which has modest sens. Bottom line is, you would have to do some tests to find out.

The Arc-geo Logger works best when recording absolute responses, such as a non-SAT all-metal mode of a metal detector. The DX200 is a gradiometer type mag so it detects delta signals, which may only give an outline of a cave, especially if the cave is large. The best advice I can offer is to thoroughly test on known landscape to learn how to read the results. Also, you may find that a certain orientation of the mag produces better results.

Sorry to contradict but this is a document written by myself
This was a report on the state of the arts about Magnetometry I wrote at the very beginning of our PPM project.
This project has ended-up to an operational PPM we now sell over the Web.
