Hello All,
I have just joined this list as I am interested in constructing a simple
magnetometer to search for alluvial gold associated with magnetite and
titanomagnetite in New Zealand South Island west coast beach sands.
I am also interested in a device that will detect a motor vehicle on the
driveway to my property to give me prior warning in the event of intruders.
Long ago I used a Jalander flux gate magnetometer in a search for nickel
deposits in Western Australia. At the time I observed that there were very
large magnetic anomalies in the piezolitic laterites that covered much of
the area. We believed that these were due to lightning strikes. Perhaps
irrelevant, but someone may come upon an otherwise inexplicable anomaly one day.
In regard to toroidal forms, polyethylene water pipe may be worth
consideration. It softens readily when heated but the ends must be welded.
As far as I am aware there is no glue available which will stick.
I would appreciate any comment that anyone can provide on magneto-inductive
and fluxgate magnetometers.
